KASHMIR LOOM
Weaving Heritage and Modernity
Nestled in the captivating landscapes of Srinagar, the lake capital of Kashmir, lies a realm where artistry flourishes. Created by Jenny Housego and Asaf Ali, along with his brothers, Kashmir Loom is a beacon of innovation in the realm of woven and embroidered shawls from the Kashmir Valley.
Kashmiri shawls bear the imprints of a multitude of influences, from the region's strategic location along ancient trade routes to the indelible marks left by 19th Century French and British culture and fashion. Crafted in small family workshops, the production process nurtures dignity, pride, and humanity at every level. Women deftly spin the world-renowned Pashmina yarn on traditional hand 'charka' wheels, known for its delicate and gossamer-like qualities. Men skillfully weave this yarn into a fabric that is exquisitely supple, soft, and warm. The result is a testament to the extraordinary beauty and craftsmanship born from the fusion of rich history, unmatched quality, and artistic innovation.
Each creation from Kashmir Loom represents the indelible mark of the human hand—a celebration of tradition seamlessly interwoven with contemporary aesthetics. It is a reflection of the dedication of Jenny Housego, Asaf Ali, and their team, who strive to preserve Kashmir's cultural heritage while propelling it forward.
