Atelier Bomba

Demi Couture from Rome

Atelier Bomba is a family affair at its core. In 1980, designer and artist Cristina Bomba founded a store and cantina, which has since evolved into a high-end atelier run by her children, Michele Am Russ and Catarina Nelli, along with Michele's wife, Julia Frommel. Although they have introduced the shop on Via dell'Oca 39 to a new clientele, they have never strayed from their mother's original vision of refinement and sustainability.

Dark grey fabric is draped on a mannequin with stitching details to guide the artisans on where to sew. The background is a studio with fabric bolts propped in a corner.

The Work

Precision and care are infused into every detail at Atelier Bomba. Each piece is chalked and cut individually by their master tailor, Maestro De Munari, and sewn entirely by hand by one of their skilled seamstresses. The patterns are sized and scaled by hand, and even the buttonholes are hand-sewn with silk thread, taking up to thirty minutes each to complete. Receiving an order from Bomba feels like unwrapping a special gift from an overseas friend - a testament to their commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

Atelier Bomba’s Apron Dress arrives in two variations through OST–one of which is an exclusive. Hand-cut and sewn from Scabal cool wool or archival Solbiati linen, the designs honor the timeless simplicity of the daily uniforms once worn by the women working in the Bomba atelier.
