Kashmir Loom

Weaving Tradition

Nestled in the captivating landscapes of Srinagar, the lake capital of Kashmir, lies a realm where artistry flourishes. Founded by Jenny Housego and Asaf Ali, Kashmir Loom was founded as a beacon of innovation in the world of woven and embroidered shawls from the Kashmir Valley.

The Work

Kashmiri shawls carry the imprints of diverse influences, shaped by the region's strategic location along ancient trade routes and the enduring marks of 19th-century French and British culture and fashion. Crafted in small family workshops, the production process fosters dignity, pride, and humanity at every stage. Women deftly spin the world-renowned Pashmina yarn on traditional hand "charka" wheels, celebrated for its delicate, gossamer-like qualities. Men expertly weave this yarn into fabric that is exquisitely supple, soft, and warm. The result is a testament to the extraordinary beauty and craftsmanship born from the fusion of rich history, exceptional quality, and artistic innovation.

Each creation from Kashmir Loom bears the indelible mark of the human hand—a celebration of tradition seamlessly interwoven with contemporary aesthetics. It reflects the dedication of Jenny Housego, Asaf Ali, and their team, who strive to preserve Kashmir's cultural heritage while propelling it forward.
